Our Story
Welcome to Single Source Tea Co. Our journey began with two souls intertwined by their shared love for tea – Mike Thompson and Nicho Peterson.
Our story takes root in 2019, when Mike embarked on a backpacking expedition from Cape Town, South Africa, overland to Cairo, Egypt. The journey brought him face-to-face with the challenges of navigating remote villages. Food was often hard to find, and language was rarely shared. Yet, amidst the trials, Mike discovered an oasis of solace in a simple cup of tea. In that humble vessel, he found moments of stillness, gratitude, and a breath of fresh air.
Tea, the world's most consumed beverage after water, weaves through the fabric of cultures, transcending language and connecting hearts. Within the warmth of shared tea, profound connections are forged that can last a lifetime. This transformative journey became the inspiration for Single Source, and we now work with many of the farmers Mike befriended along the way.
Through tea, make friends.
Back home, Mike's passion for tea led him to study under a tea master, embracing a daily tea practice that gently guided him back to equilibrium after 28 months of travel.
Meanwhile, Nicho's own bond with tea traces back to his childhood, where he sipped on tea throughout factories in China, watching from the sidelines as his grandmother and mother negotiated in business meetings. When negotiations escalated, the ritual of tea would often intervene, restoring harmony and dissolving tension. Tea's ability to create shared resonance, fostering open and honest communication, left a lasting impression on Nicho.
When Mike and Nicho crossed paths, they embarked on a tea-infused journey of friendship and shared wisdom. Sitting down for tea, they sipped on old-growth pu'ers, an experience that transported Nicho to an "extreme altered state" that they still laugh about today. Mike's invitation to the world of sacred tea sparked a profound connection between the two, leading to the creation of Single Source today.
Through the magic of tea, we make friends. We'd be honored to have tea with you.
